PLAYER NOTES
--CB Cortland Finnegan can probably expect a fine coming his way as he was penalized for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Texans QB Matt Schaub. Later on the same drive, Finnegan was flagged for spearing TE Owen Daniels at the end of a play. Finnegan was also hit with a pass interference penalty. All total, he had 35 yards in penalties by himself.
--DE Dave Ball is likely to continue to start for the remainder of the regular season now that Kyle Vanden Bosch is headed to surgery for a groin injury. Ball has 4.5 sacks this season.
--DE Jacob Ford will also remain a valued part of the defensive end rotation in Vanden Bosch's place. With DT Albert Haynesworth also out, Ford now leads the Titans available players in sacks with six.
--DT Jason Jones, a rookie second round pick, is back from a foot injury and now will start at defensive tackle alongside Tony Brown while Albert Haynesworth is out.
--K Rob Bironas has made 16 of 17 field goals in his career at Reliant Stadium. He made four more Sunday, accounting for all the Titans' points after having an NFL record eight field goals there last year.
--CB Cary Williams, just up from the practice squad, suffered a quadriceps injury Sunday and could be placed on injured reserve to make room for DT Amon Gordon, who is currently on the practice squad.
REPORT CARD VS. TEXANS
PASSING OFFENSE: D -- Kerry Collins misfired too many times in completing just 15 of 33 passes. It was probably his worst game since assuming the starter's role in Week 2. Collins overthrew Justin McCareins on the Titans final offensive play, a fourth-and-3 from the Texans' 32.
RUSHING OFFENSE: C-minus -- The final team total of 100 yards doesn't look bad, but the Titans abandoned the run perhaps too early in such a close game. The Texans were gearing to stop the run, but it was fairly effective, just not used enough. Chris Johnson had 65 yards on 13 attempts.
PASS DEFENSE: F -- Yes, they sacked Matt Schaub three times, but they also allowed Andre Johnson to catch 11 passes for 207 yards and the game's only touchdown. Pass interference calls and a pair of roughing the passer penalties also extended Houston drives.
RUSH DEFENSE: D -- Steve Slaton is the only running back to put up 100 yards against the Titans defense, and he has done it twice, including Sunday when he had 100 even. A big 34-yard gain after the Titans had turned the ball over on downs sealed the game for Houston.
SPECIAL TEAMS: A -- Rob Bironas was money as usual for the Titans, making four field goals, but was denied the chance to go for a potential game-winner because Jeff Fisher determined he was out of range going into the wind.
COACHING: F -- Whether passing up the field goal was the right call or not, the Titans were decidedly flat against a team they were 11-2 against all-time. Linebacker Keith Bulluck even said the team played like guys were "on vacation." That is something that cannot happen this late in the season to a playoff team.
