Tennessee Titans Strategy and Personnel 2008-11-29
PLAYER NOTES

--RB Chris Johnson enjoyed his first 100-yard rushing game since a 168-yard effort in Kansas City on Oct. 19. Johnson had 125 yards on just 16 carries. Johnson is now just 42 yards shy of 1,000 yards. He would become the first 1,000-yard rookie for the franchise since Eddie George in 1996.

--CB Nick Harper, who missed two games with a foot injury, had another scare Thursday in Detroit when he twisted his left ankle. Harper managed to return and finish the game.

--RB LenDale White, who openly complained about just one carry on Sunday in the loss to the Jets, got plenty of work Thursday with a season-high 23 carries against the Lions. That represented exactly half of Tennessee's 46 rushing attempts. White finished with 106 yards and two touchdowns and now has 13 touchdowns this season.

--K Rob Bironas continues to be solid on field goals, making all four of his attempts on Thursday from beyond 40 yards. Bironas is 24 of 27 this season on field-goal attempts and has not missed inside 40 yards.

--DT Kevin Vickerson has played well in spot duty the past two weeks. Vickerson had a fumble recovery against the Jets last Sunday and had a sack against the Lions on Thursday. He has only been playing because Jason Jones is out with a foot injury.

--DT Jason Jones missed his third straight with a foot injury, but is getting closer to returning, says coach Jeff Fisher. With 10 days off before the Titans host Cleveland, Jones should be ready to go.

REPORT CARD VS. LIONS

PASSING OFFENSE: B -- The Titans didn't really need the passing game to dispense with the Lions, but still got an efficient day from Kerry Collins who was 11 of 18 for 127 yards. Vince Young completed his only pass that Ahmard Hall extended to a 54-yard gain.

RUSHING OFFENSE: A -- Chris Johnson was untouched on his two scores from six and 58 yards. He finished with 125 yards on 16 carries with 119 in the first half. LenDale White added 106 more and two scores as well in a 292-yard team effort.

PASS DEFENSE: A -- The Titans sacked Lions quarterbacks four times and held Detroit to 0-for-11 on third down. In all, the Lions had just 131 net passing yards.

RUSH DEFENSE: A -- Tennessee's rushing defense was even better than the pass defense Thursday against the hapless Lions. Detroit's Kevin Smith had one 21-yard gain. Other than that, the Lions rushed for two yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A -- Titans coverage teams were probably worn out after 10 kickoffs on Thursday. As usual, Rob Bironas was reliable, kicking four second-half field goals as Tennessee pulled the plug on several drives after halftime.

COACHING: A -- The Titans knew they were the better team in nearly every aspect of the game. Jeff Fisher wanted his team to re-establish its running identity and repair the damage done against the run defense by the New York Jets. Mission accomplished in correcting those issues with a timely break in the schedule.
