PLAYER NOTES
--MLB Stephen Tulloch was not on the field for as many snaps as the Titans had hoped after being elevated to the first team. His highlight was a first-quarter fumble recovery that led to Tennessee's first touchdown against the Vikings. The Vikings went three-wide and forced the Titans to employ their nickel package for a good part of the game.
--It does not appear likely, but MLB Ryan Fowler, who played well on special teams after his demotion, will be considered to reclaim his starting job, according to Jeff Fisher. "We're going to visit this week and make a decision," Fisher said, while acknowledging that Tulloch played well Sunday. "As I said, the decision was made because I felt it was the best matchup as far as the opponent was concerned. We'll just all discuss it with the staff and both linebackers this week."
--KR Chris Carr enjoyed his best game as a Titan on Sunday, as his 52-yard kickoff return after Minnesota had cut the lead to 23-17 put the Titans in plus-territory. The Titans were unable to capitalize immediately on the return, but when Craig Hentrich's punt was downed at the 2, it eventually led to a Nick Harper interception setting up the game's final touchdown.
--QB Kerry Collins has only two touchdown passes this season in three starts, but more important, has had just one interception and been sacked one time in those three games.
--RB LenDale White's day of 11 carries for 13 yards was not impressive, but the fact that he has five touchdowns in four games is. White is tied with Miami's Ronnie Brown for the AFC lead and if he scores this week would tie Earl Campbell's team record of scoring a touchdown in five consecutive games.
REPORT CARD VS. VIKINGS
PASSING OFFENSE: B - Kerry Collins was 18 of 35 for 199 yards and his favorite target was Justin Gage, who had five catches for 92 yards. Collins was not sacked, nor intercepted, but was not as effective in the second half, completing just 5 of 14 throws.
RUSHING OFFENSE: C - Tennessee knew its staple rushing game would be tested against the Vikings, and the Titans had to settle for chipping away on Sunday, getting just 76 yards on 34 attempts with a long carry of nine yards. They did score three rushing touchdowns, however, from the red zone.
PASS DEFENSE: B - Not their best performance of the season, but still very effective, especially late with four total sacks in the game. Defensive tackles Albert Haynesworth and Tony Brown had 3.5 of the four sacks, and Nick Harper's interception late helped seal the game.
RUSH DEFENSE: B-plus - Adrian Peterson scorched them for a 28-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, but other than that, the Titans held the Vikings' dynamo to just 52 yards on his other 17 rushing attempts. Not a bad day's work altogether.
SPECIAL TEAMS: A - After being somewhat a liability in previous games, special teams contributed heavily when it was needed. Rob Bironas provided three field goals, including a 49-yarder, while Chris Carr had a 52-yard kickoff return, and Craig Hentrich dropped a 35-yard punt out that the 2-yard line with the Titans clinging to a six-point lead late.
COACHING: A - There were lulls, as the offensive production went south in the second half, and the defense gave up some plays in the first half, but overall the Titans controlled the game and have the first 4-0 start in franchise history.
