Tennessee Titans Strategy and Personnel 2009-05-01

The Titans entered draft weekend with 10 picks, including four compensatory selections, and while it was widely speculated that they might package some picks to move up for a higher pick or a player like Anquan Boldin, the Titans instead left the draft with 11 players, giving up a second-rounder in '10 to draft TE Jared Cook.

At least for Tennessee's top four picks, they should have roles beyond special teams (or just trying to secure a roster spot). Top choice Kenny Britt steps in as the No. 3 wideout, while second-round Sen'Derrick Marks is another addition to help bolster the defensive tackle position in the wake of Albert Haynesworth's departure. Third-rounder Jared Cook will be eased into the tight end rotation, and Ryan Mouton, a cornerback by trade, could have the inside track on the kick return job.

Beyond that, there is a chance fifth-rounder Javon Ringer of Michigan State could force his way into the running back rotation, past Chris Henry and into a battle with LenDale White behind Chris Johnson.

MEDICAL WATCH: Kevin Mawae (elbow), Dave Ball (back), Nick Harper (groin) are on track to return by training camp. Kyle Vanden Bosch (groin) is a full participant in offseason program.

--CB Reynaldo Hill, a former starter who was shoved to the back of the depth chart the past two years, is probably best off finding a fresh start elsewhere.

--WR Justin McCareins came back to the Titans for a second tour of duty, but was injured and a bit of a disappointment. The Titans haven't ruled out his return completely, but they will probably look at other options first.

--CB Tyrone Poole, a veteran who signed on in November after a rash of cornerback injuries, was used sparingly and won't return. It could be his final NFL stop after 14 seasons.
