Tennessee Titans Notes, Quotes 2009-01-06
--Speaking of the 2000 playoff game, there will be as many players who played for Tennessee that day in Ravens uniforms Saturday as there will be players who are still with the Titans.

The Titans still have punter Craig Hentrich, linebacker Keith Bulluck and defensive end Jevon Kearse, who returned just this season after four years in Philadelphia, who played in that game in 2000.

Baltimore, on the other hand, also has three former Titans on its roster who were on the losing end of that game in 2000. Wide receiver Derrick Mason and cornerback Samari Rolle have been mainstays with the Ravens since being released in a salary-cap purge by Tennessee after the 2004 season, while fullback Lorenzo Neal joined the Ravens this year. He spent the 1999 and 2000 seasons in Tennessee.

--Talk about fate and breaks. Casey Cramer and Amon Gordon are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Cramer, who spent 2006-07 with the Titans but was released in training camp, re-signed with Tennessee last week after being waived by Miami.

Cramer, who will help out on special teams, will be along for the ride in the postseason for the Titans after being out of the league just two weeks earlier.

Gordon, on the other hand, joined the Titans' practice squad in midseason and was elevated to the active roster at the end of the year. However, the defensive tackle was released on Monday to make room for Kevin Vickerson, who completed a four-game suspension for violating the NFL banned substances policy.

By league rules, Gordon cannot be brought back to the practice squad because the Titans are still alive in the playoffs.

"It was very difficult. He understands. We're very grateful for what he gave us, not only as a practice-squad player, but also as an active roster player and having played in Week 17," coach Jeff Fisher said. "When you release a player at this point in the playoffs, you have to wait until after the Super Bowl to clear waivers. We would not have the ability to bring him back. It was a difficult decision, but he understands the rules, and we had to make the decision."

Gordon's agent Angelo Wright was disappointed with the timing of the move.

"I don't know what we're going to do. That's a bitter pill to swallow. That's the reason you stay around is to be able to be a part of all the playoffs and everything," Wright said. "So I don't know what we'll do. We've already had a call from another playoff team (in the NFC) wanting to add him to their practice squad if they can."

That is unlikely, because the claiming period doesn't end until Jan. 15, three days before the conference championship games.
