Tennessee Titans Notes, Quotes 2009-04-03
--Needing depth in the secondary, the Titans decided not to wait until the draft to do so. They added former Houston Texans CB DeMarcus Faggins on Tuesday, agreeing to a terms on a two-year deal.

The need for additional bodies at cornerback after losing Chris Carr and Eric King in free agency caused the Titans to look at a number of options only to see them sign elsewhere. Those included Justin Miller (Oakland) and Donald Strickland (New York Jets), before finally landing Faggins. While the seven-year veteran might not be a great upgrade, it does provide experience behind starters Cortland Finnegan and Nick Harper as the team enters training camp.

--A newspaper report indicated that the Titans had submitted articles and a radio interview claiming tampering evidence against the Washington Redskins for their signing of DT Albert Haynesworth during the first few hours of free agency.

Rumors had circulated as far back as the NFL Combine that the Redskins had Haynesworth on their radar and that Haynesworth's agent Chad Speck had had conversations with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder.

The Titans have sent their information to the commissioner's office, according to the report, but have not filed a formal grievance in the matter. In order to have the Redskins punished by fines or forfeited picks, a formal charge would have to be lodged. Without such, it makes the Titans' efforts in the matter appear half-hearted.

--The Titans unveiled a 50th anniversary logo to commemorate the half-century mark for the old American Football League. The Titans, then known as the Houston Oilers, won the first two AFL championships in 1960 and 1961.

The logo features the number "50" on a Columbia blue background with the zero in the number as the Titans fireball, sword and stars logo. To the right of that is a white oil derrick, symbolic of the Oilers' logo the team donned from 1960-98 before the nickname was changed to the Titans.

The Titans, like the other seven original AFL clubs, will wear the patch on their jerseys this season and will also don the uniforms of the 1960 Oilers in the Aug. 9 Hall of Fame Game against Buffalo, as well as once on the road and once at home this season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "That's a good thing to get those extra picks. It does help to fill the depth on your team when you get those four extra picks." -- Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt on the team being awarded four compensatory picks in this month's draft.
