Tennessee Titans Notes, Quotes 2009-03-30
--DT Jason Jones is being counted on to help replace free agent defection Albert Haynesworth and is working to get his weight under control from the standpoint of adding bulk this off-season to be ready by training camp.

Jones was listed at 275 when the Titans chose him in the second round last year out of Eastern Michigan, but his weight during the season actually dipped into the 260s at one point. This off-season he is at 278, and strength and conditioning coach Steve Watterson envisions him having even more mass by the time camp opens in July.

"Obviously I know we're gonna be able to crack the 280 mark with him," Watterson said. "There's no doubt. We'll crack him to the 80-mark and I'm not even afraid to bring him up to 285."

--Last year QB Kerry Collins was on a regimen of dropping pounds, so much so that he was more than 20 pounds lighter than before. Collins played at around 225-230 last season. But this year, he might be a little heavier because he has bought into the team's off-season weight program and is working out regularly with his teammates, and could add about five pounds of muscle.

"He was down in excess of 25 pounds and now we're actually gonna have him gain a couple of pounds because he's working out so much now. He's lifting and running and running with regular groups and put on about five pounds," Watterson said. "Five pounds on his fame really isn't much. But if it's muscle mass it's gonna bode well for him."

--DE Kyle Vanden Bosch has always been one of the leaders in the off-season program, and this year is no exception. Vanden Bosch has even more on his plate, however, as he is coming off late-season groin surgery that allowed him to play in the playoff game. But Vanden Bosch wasn't 100 percent in the playoff loss to the Ravens, and now says the injury is behind him, something he proved to himself early in off-season work.

Vanden Bosch said he made a couple of cuts to test the injury and the groin passed the test, convincing him the injury is finally behind him.

--The off-season program has gotten under way with good attendance, as Watterson said only two players are not currently in attendance. He did not name the players who were absent, but one is believed to be tight end Bo Scaife, who is playing under the franchise tender and has to sign it in order to take part.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "He knows I will always be there for him and help him in any way I can. He just can't play for us anymore." -- Titans coach Jeff Fisher when asked about former Titan Adam "Pacman" Jones getting another chance in the NFL.
