Tennessee Titans Notes, Quotes 2009-03-20
--The Titans began their off-season workouts on Monday, and QB Vince Young was among the first-day participants in the "voluntary" program. That might not sound like much, but given the season Young struggled through in 2008 where he began it by spending much of the off-season taking classes in Austin, Texas, rather than working full-time with then-new offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, it bears noting.

Young is on the spot to show something to the Titans after his 2008 season was for all intents and purposes a meltdown that was exposed in the season opener when he refused to go back into the game, then was injured moments later. The Titans want Young to embrace the backup role and learn from Kerry Collins, something he didn't exactly warm up to once he returned from the knee injury last year.

--Speaking of quarterbacks, rumors continue to link the Titans to disenchanted Denver Broncos star Jay Cutler, primarily because Cutler played his college football in Nashville at Vanderbilt, worked with Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, who was his quarterbacks coach in Denver, and still has a home in town.

But that doesn't mean it is going to happen. When the Titans re-signed Kerry Collins for two years at $15 million, it probably ended any chance of adding a starting quarterback. There have been plenty of rumors regarding Cutler and Tennessee, but the Broncos have yet to field any trade offers, and even if they did, it is unlikely the Titans would break from their conservative style to pull the trigger on such a deal.

--RB LenDale White was reportedly 20 pounds lighter as he reported to the Titans off-season program this week. White, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, vowed at season's end to come back in better shape and be a better player this season after his costly fumble helped do in the Titans playoff hopes with a 13-10 loss to Baltimore in the divisional round.

Of course, no one outside the Titans organization knows exactly what White's weight is or what he reported at a year ago. His playing weight is usually listed generously at around 235 pounds, and in 2007, when White was the Titans primary running back, he was near 270 pounds when he arrived for off-season work.

--All-Pro CB Cortland Finnegan has become quite a hit in Music City. But can he sing? Titans fans will get the chance to find out as Finnegan is hosting a Karaoke For A Cure on April 1 to raise money to help fight leukemia and lymphoma. Finnegan started the event a year ago, and has decided to make the event an annual one with many of his Titans teammates and those from the country music business assisting with the project.

QUOTE TO NOTE: ""We talked with the Titans at the start of free agency, but I haven't heard from the since. Frankly, I'm a little surprised that they haven't called yet." -- Cliff Brady, agent for Titans free agent WR Justin McCareins, a starter in 2008, who remains unsigned.
