Tennessee Titans Notes, Quotes 2009-03-13
--CB Chris Carr continues to make the rounds in free agency. Carr, who had already visited with the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots, spent time visiting with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Carr, whose primary role with the Titans was as a kickoff and punt returner, would like to find a team where he could have a bigger role on the defense. But thus far, that apparently has not been forthcoming, as he remains unsigned.

If Carr doesn't find a situation where he can play more in the defensive packages, his best bet might be to come back to Tennessee where at least he would be the fourth cornerback and provide a solid option as a return man.

--With Carr shopping himself in free agency, the Titans aren't wasting any time searching for possible replacements. In a span of three days, the Titans played host to CBs Justin Miller of Oakland, Eric Green of Arizona and Jarrett Bush of Green Bay on consecutive days.

Even if Carr eventually returns to the fold, look for the Titans to perhaps sign at least one of those three players to add to the depth in their defensive backfield, caused by the free agent departure of Eric King and the fact that Reynaldo Hill and Tyrone Poole will likely not be re-signed.

--After QB Chris Simms accepted a two-year, $6 million offer from the Denver Broncos, the Titans were back in the market for a backup quarterback, either from the list of free agents or via the draft.

The first to visit was Broncos free agent Patrick Ramsey, a former first-round pick of the Washington Redskins. Ramsey is familiar with Mike Heimerdinger's offense and would be a good fit as a backup to Kerry Collins and someone to challenge Vince Young, who is currently in the No. 2 role but could face a challenge for that in training camp, depending upon who is brought in as the third quarterback.

--P Craig Hentrich made his return for a 16th NFL season official last week when he agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth a reported $1.8 million.

Hentrich struggled toward the end of the 2008 season because of physical issues with his back, and contemplated retirement. However, after some time to rest and recharge, Hentrich has decided to return for at least one more season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I'm kind of a year-to-year guy, but if my body still feels good after the season, I could play longer. I love playing for Coach (Jeff Fisher and the organization." - P Craig Hentrich on his decision to return for a 16th NFL season and possibly playing beyond 2009.
