The Tennessee Titans decided to take a break in Sunday's regular-season finale in Indianapolis, and it showed in a 23-0 loss to the Colts.

The game meant nothing in the standings to either team, and the Titans apparently took that to heart in the way they played.

Sure, it didn't have any bearing on the Titans' playoff seeding, and the starters quickly gave way to backups at most positions. But it was still one of the team's most lackluster showing in recent memory and Tennessee's first shutout suffered since the 1999 season when they were blanked by the Miami Dolphins.

A day later, Titans coach Jeff Fisher and the players offered no apologies for in essence mailing it in at Lucas Oil Stadium in order to rest and ready themselves for the postseason.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Monday that the way the Titans handled the game would not have been any different had the outcome affected either the Colts or an outside team's playoff hopes, as was the case last year when Tennessee needed to win to earn a postseason spot and the game meant nothing to Indianapolis. In that game, the Cleveland Browns needed a Colts victory to secure a postseason berth, but the Colts chose to rest their starters the majority of the game.

"We were focused purely on ourselves. If you're asking if the roles were reversed last year in Indy, if there were another team involved and we were in Indy's role, we would have done the same thing," Fisher said.

Fisher said the contest won't even be mandatory viewing for the Titans as they prepare for this week's bye and the divisional playoffs in two weeks.

"We agreed when we walked out those doors yesterday that we wouldn't revisit the game, wouldn't bring it up, wouldn't look at it. We're going to move forward," Fisher said.

The game didn't have much meaning to the players either, apparently, and linebacker Keith Bulluck pretty much said so on Monday when asked about it.

"We went out there to play and we wanted to win that game with the players we had out there," Bulluck said. "To be very frank, I didn't care about that game, but that doesn't mean my attitude that I took out on the football field was that I didn't care, because I did care and a I played hard. We just didn't score any points and we didn't stop them enough times. That game is not going to have any effect on us for what goes on for the rest of the year."
