Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher said his team needed to get back to running the football after suffering a loss to the New York Jets last Sunday.

On Thanksgiving Day, the Titans passed the test by rushing for 292 yards in a 47-10 trouncing of the woeful Detroit Lions.

OK, it was an open-book test since it was the Lions, but the Titans still aced it by controlling the game in dominant fashion with the offensive line and running backs Chris Johnson and LenDale White, who combined for 231 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

"It's nice to be able to do what you set out to do, and that's what we did. We were committed to it. Both backs got a lot of yards on their own, and they got a lot of help up front," Fisher said.

From the outset, it was evident the Titans would have little trouble running the football on a Lions defense that ranks last in the league against the run. Brandon Jones started the game with a 28-yard reverse, and Johnson followed that with a 6-yard touchdown run, going untouched around left end.

"Traditionally, Coach Fisher's teams are running teams, and I think that's our identity here," White said. "I think once we get the run game going, the pass is not that far behind."

Speaking of untouched, not a single Lions defender laid a hand on Johnson the next series as he took a third-and-5 draw play 58 yards for a score.

"Their fast linebackers really flowed to the ball so we wanted to mix in some change of direction stuff and we got a good guy in Chris to do it. Obviously with his speed, you can get around the corner," said quarterback Kerry Collins, who had a relatively easy day because of the run game.

It was the Titans' best rushing day in more than a month after having teams like Chicago, Green Bay and the Jets stack the box and stifle the rushing attack. By no means is Fisher ready to declare the running game completely back on track after a blowout of winless team.

"It's a week-to-week issue. It's a commitment," Fisher said. "We've made the commitment years ago and made it throughout the season but it's, every opponent is different. It worked out well for us."
