NASHVILLE -- Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz continues to be part of the rumor mill regarding NFL coaching vacancies.
While his name has been linked to the openings in Cleveland and St. Louis via rumors, the strongest rumblings regarding Schwartz currently are out of Detroit, where the Lions finished off the first 0-16 season in history and fired coach Rod Marinelli.
The NFL Network reported that the Lions have already asked the Titans for permission to interview Schwartz, but sources in Nashville and Detroit were unable to confirm that report Tuesday.
Efforts to reach Schwartz and his agent Jimmy Sexton were not successful.
It is not the first time the Titans defensive coordinator's name has surfaced regarding a head-coaching vacancy in the NFL. He was a finalist for the San Francisco 49ers job in 2005 and last year was in the running at varying degrees for the openings in Atlanta, Washington and Miami.
The Titans have the league's best record at 13-3, and Schwartz's defense has been a major factor, ranking at or near the top in a number of defensive categories the past two seasons.
Sold out
Some 3,900 single-game tickets for the Titans divisional playoff game on Jan. 10 went on sale Tuesday morning and were gone in a matter of minutes.
"They went in three minutes. When you think about it, it is for one game," Titans executive vice president of administration and facilities Don MacLachlan said.
The Titans will host the Baltimore Ravens at 4:30 p.m. Eastern if the Ravens defeat Miami this Sunday. If not, Tennessee will host the winner of the Indianapolis-San Diego game.
