IRVING, Texas -- The mystery surrounding injured Dallas Cowboys rookie Felix Jones has been solved, and the running back will not play again this season.
Jones has a torn ligament beneath his left big toe, sustained two weeks ago while doing rehabilitation on the left hamstring he hurt Oct. 12. The hamstring is healed, but he will need surgery on the toe and up to six months to fully recover.
"Obviously disappointed, certainly for him and us," coach Wade Phillips said. "But long term, he's going to be all right."
Peterson gets break: The Vikings gave AdrianPeterson's body a break.
Peterson was held out of Thursday's practice; he did some running in the pool instead. Coach Brad Childress said he decided the NFL's leading rusher needed a day to rest after taking plenty of hard hits in last week's game against Tampa Bay.
Titans practice: The Tennessee Titans appear to be healing up.
Linebacker Keith Bulluck practiced Thursday for the first time since hurting a rib on Nov. 2, and defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch also practiced as he tries to return after missing three of the past four games.
Burress sidelined:Giants receiver Plaxico Burress missed practice Thursday because of a hamstring injury.
Coach Tom Coughlin was short in discussing Burress' injury, saying time would tell whether Burress plays Sunday in Arizona.
Asked when Burress was injury, Coughlin said: "Just now. Overnight and intotoday."
