Here in Cincinnati, as I watch these NFL games, my roof is barely hanging on for its life. Trees are down, power is out in several places, and people are scrambling to retrieve items from neighbor’s yards.
Meanwhile, at Paul Brown Stadium, the goal posts are shaking and every pass looks like the football is actually a Wiffle Ball.
The effects of Hurricane Ike are reaching the midwest. It is in by no means wreaking the same havoc it did in the Texas gulf areas, but it is still quite a strong storm.
As for the NFL side of things, the Cincinnati-Tennessee tilt is the only game really affected. The Colts-Vikings and Packers-Lions are being played indoors. However, tonight’s nationally-televised Steelers-Browns game in Cleveland may have both heavy wind and rain in store.
According to the Weather Channel, the storm is whipping its way northeast to Canada.
As I was typing this about … oh … 13 hours ago, my power went out (thanks to Randy Kim and Stephanie Stradley for finishing the post for me). I just had the lights come back on. The storm brought hurricane force winds through the Ohio Valley, leaving an estimated 600,000 people in the Greater Cincinnati area without power. Trees are down everywhere, fires are raging in some places, windows shattered, power lines down and the county I live has declared a state of emergency. Four people have been killed.
On a personal note, my roof was listed as a “catastrophe” by my insurance agent … and the dude who lives next to me is missing a side of his house. We all are fine, but a little shaken.
